New York has no shortage of things to see and do. While New York City is one of the state’s main attractions for obvious reasons, it’s certainly not the only reason for a visit to the state of New York.
In fact, there are nearly 54,000 square miles of land that lie outside of New York City to explore.
There’s the 315-mile Hudson River, which runs from the Adirondack Mountains to New York City. There are also 70,000 miles of other waterways within the state. You can visit the Atlantic Ocean and even two of the Great Lakes here.
There are three major mountain ranges to explore: the Catskills, part of the Appalachian Mountains, and the enormous Adirondack Mountains, which have a total park size of 28 million acres, making it the largest park in the United States besides in Alaska.
There is certainly a lot to do in the Empire State.

Quiet A-Frame in Pine Plains
This four-bedroom and 2.5-bathroom A-frame is located in Pine Plains, part of the Hudson Valley region, which spans from the tip of Manhattan north into Albany, the state’s capital. You can hike nearby in the Thompson Pond Preserve or check out the Stissing Mountain Fire Tower. You are also about 20 miles from Catamount Ski Resort.

This two-bedroom and two-bathroom cabin is on 14 acres, has access to a pond, and is close to the town of Rhinebeck where you can enjoy many shopping and dining opportunities. Be sure to check out what events are happening at the 162-acre Dutchess County Fairgrounds during your stay.
